Data Controller

Autolease is the data controller who will process customer data (name, address, identification data and financial data). This data is collected from a customer in order to facilitate their leasing of a motor vehicle.


Processing of customer data collected by one of our suppliers (e.g. Visitor Chat) on behalf of Autolease for the purpose of facilitating the lease a motor vehicle.

For example: customer data may be processed as audio data (live phone call, call recordings), as text Email or in paper/ electronic image format (customer proof of identity documents).


Data Processor

Customer data collected on behalf of motor vehicle finance provider companies (lenders) and or motor vehicle insurance providers, in order to facilitate their approval of an application for vehicle leasing and motor vehicle insurance. This data may be in audio format, electronic text or even in paper/ electronic image format for example: customer proof of identity documents and financial data including credit checks.

Information used to approve your account


  • Autolease will perform a number of qualification checks to verify that you are eligible for our products and services
  • Identify and document checks
  • Facilitate motor vehicle lease quotations
  • In some instances we may be required to conduct a soft credit check to retrieve your credit score and inform us of your credit history. This does not show up on your credit history.
  • These qualification checks are performed by third party sources such as suppliers chosen by Autolease, anti-fraud databases, credit reference agencies, and the DVLA.
  • Marketing
  • If you have opted in to receiving marketing material, Autolease will contact you from time to time by telephone, post, e-mail or SMS to keep you informed with news, products or services, together with carefully selected offers or promotions which we feel may be of interest to you. If you do not want to receive any further marketing material, please contact us at [email protected] or select the unsubscribe feature from any marketing material you have received.
  • Lease Agreement Information
  • We retain all data relating to any lease enquiry or agreement you enter with Autolease. This includes vehicle information, dates and times, delivery details and additional drivers. Sometimes we may ask you to perform an additional affordability check before we can approve a lease. We will also collect insurance information relating to your booking including policy number, a copy of your certificate and any insurance claims you make while leasing from Autolease.

How we use Customers’ information

The personal data we hold about you will be processed by our staff and systems in the United Kingdom. Your information may be passed to third parties, where required, to provide the goods/services you have applied for, as well as where there is a legal obligation for us to provide third parties with this information e.g. The FCA or The Police, to prevent, detect, investigate and prosecute fraud and alleged fraud, money laundering and other crimes, and to confirm your identity.

We will use your data to process your application for goods/services provided by us. This processing will include some or all of the below:

  • Facilitating a lease quotation

Autolease may at times use trusted third parties to process some of your data. We share your data with the following Data Processors –


  • Insurance partners and claim processors; to administrate your insurance policy and any claims
  • Payment processors; to process payments relating to your lease
  • Fleet management company, to manage vehicle logistics and deliveries
  • Vehicle suppliers/owners, who may need to contact you in relation to your lease
  • Some of your data may be passed to our supplier to allow us to improve our products and services
  • Identity and anti-fraud services, to verify your identity and approve your account
  • Anyone who contacts us on your behalf with your consent, such as family, friends, lawyers
  • Third-party email marketing company to run marketing campaigns
  • If you consent to us marketing to you, and we run a marketing campaign, some of your data may be passed to this provider
  • Service providers; such as Google and Microsoft for internal correspondence
  • The Government, local councils, and regulatory bodies, to ensure we meet our regulatory and legal requirements
  • Debt-recovery and vehicle-repossession firms; to help manage arrears and trace stolen vehicles
  • All processing of your personal data is justified using at least one of the following lawful bases:

  7. Profiling and Automated Decision Making (ADM)
  • Autolease performs Profiling and Automated Decision Making using the data you provide us when creating your account. The Automated Decision Making determines your eligibility to use our services (and the insurance provided by our partners) based on a set of internal and contractual rules. We regularly review, test, and update this algorithm. You have the right to object, challenge, or request a manual review of any decision made using ADM. The Profiling uses machine learning to predict your risk profile and to predict your behaviour on the Autolease site. This helps us understand your demands and needs and allows us to offer a lease that suits you.

Data Retention


Autolease will retain your personal data for as long as is needed to fulfil the purpose we collected it for.


Once we no longer require the information for the specified purposes for which it was collected or the purposes outlined below, we would either anonymise or delete the information. We would not retain personal information in an identifiable format for longer than is necessary.


Other determinants on the length of time that we retain your personal information are:

  • The need to use your personal information to establish, bring or defend legal claims.
  • The requirement by law for us to hold your personal information for a longer period, or to delete it sooner.
